This buckskin was standing on a hill with bright green trees and shrubs all around him in the middle of summer. The floral design is meant to substitute for the trees as well as to help define the form and gesture of the horses. The use of color was a focus for this piece: The pale yellow of the flowers is the same as the buckskin's coat in the mid-day sunlight.
